In the Beginning: A Short History of the Hebrew Language, by Joel M. Hoffman. Published by NYU Press, 2004.Authored by a linguist, this easy read gives a concise history from a linguistic point of view. Clearly written, very enjoyable. (My copy was a gift from my TBZ Intermediate Hebrew class of Spring 2005. Thanks, guys!)
